(18) From the fear of being wronged, deliver me, Jesus.
Lord… can we talk about this one?
This fear—of being wronged—
it’s quieter than the others.
More subtle.
But heavy.
It’s the hesitation that creeps in when we’re asked to trust again.
To partner with someone.
To show up.
To speak out.
To try.
Because… what if we do the right thing—and still get hurt?
You know what that’s like, don’t You?
You loved perfectly—and were betrayed.
You healed—and were accused.
You were goodness itself—and still, You were wronged.
So maybe… maybe You understand this fear more than anyone else.
We don’t always know how to talk about it, Lord.
Some of us carry the bruises of real injustice.
We did what was right—and they still twisted the story.
We forgave—and they did it again.
We kept showing up—and were still left out.
And somewhere along the way…
we started pulling back.
Maybe we didn’t even notice.
But our yeses got smaller.
Our love got safer.
Our hope—more guarded.
You see it, don’t You?
It’s not that we want to live small.
It’s just that… we’re tired of being hurt.
But You never stop inviting us back into the light.
Not recklessly.
Not without wisdom.
But with a courage rooted not in people—but in You.
Could You help us live like that?
Help us keep doing the right thing—not because it’s safe, but because it’s good.
Help us love again, build again, try again… even if we’re not sure how it’ll end.
And if we do get wronged—give us a peace that holds.
A quiet confidence that says: “I did what was mine to do.”
Remind us:
It’s between us and You.
It always was.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14
“Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap—if you do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you… and your reward will be great.” — Luke 6:27, 35
Deliver us, Jesus, from the fear of being wronged.
Not so we can walk into danger,
but so we can walk freely with You.
Amen.
