Happy Mother’s Day?
We woke up with Mother’s Day paying its yearly visit this morning, right?
Have you noticed how it used to be “Happy Mother’s Day!!”
And now… it’s more like “Happy Mother’s Day??”
I sure have.
That shift says something.
For some, this day is still full of brunches, blossoms, and handmade cards.
But for others, it’s a day of deep complexity—loss, longing, bitterness, or silence.
Even resentment. Even guilt.
Some grieve a mother they never had.
Some grieve the kind of mother they couldn’t be.
The world has changed—and motherhood with it.
But one thing hasn’t: We all inherit a maternal heirloom.
Even if you were cut out of the will, you got something.
Maybe it was a legacy of love.
Maybe it was silence.
Maybe it was trauma wrapped in traditions.
Or values passed down through tears and tight smiles.
But here’s the grace in it all:
You can sort it out.
You can catalogue the good, name the bad, and discard the ugly.
And through grace, you can add new jewels to the heirloom you pass on.
What you inherited doesn’t have to be what you leave behind.
And here’s another truth that might catch you off guard:
It’s not women who make mothers.
It’s children.
Children are the initiators.
It’s their existence that opens the gate.
That first heartbeat, that first cry—they don’t just arrive.
They invite.
So if no one told you:
You made someone a mother.
You let her into the sacred circle.
Whether she honored that or not—you gave the gift.
And that gift still speaks.
This is why, as a community, the very first grace we’re addressing together is Maternal Grace.
Because everything starts here.
Before we rebuild the world, we need to look at what shaped us.
Before we pray for healing “out there,” we have to receive it in here.
Because Maternal Grace is where life begins—and where legacy is redeemed.
So whether you’re celebrating today, surviving it, or skipping it entirely…
Let’s make space to sort through what we were given—
And then ask God to help us pass on something better.
Grace does that.
Truth to Stand On
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."
—Romans 8:28
Nothing is wasted—not even the pain.
God can use it all to build something beautiful.
Grace in Focus
Maternal Grace is more than the strength to bear children. It’s the divine capacity to:
Nurture others with love, even when you weren’t nurtured
Forgive without pretending it didn’t hurt
Let go of what you never received, while learning how to give it
Sort what was passed down to you and choose what to carry forward
Love your children well—and be cherished by them in return
Step into spiritual motherhood for others who need the touch of grace
Maternal Grace is about becoming a life-giver in the spirit, not just in the body.
It is for women, for men, for anyone ready to break cycles and bless generations.
A Moment to Receive from God
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to help you look honestly at your maternal inheritance—
not with blame, but with grace.
What was beautiful? What was broken?
What are you ready to heal… and pass on differently?
Ask Him for the grace to mother well, and—just as importantly—
the grace to be loved, honored, and cherished by those you nurture.
It is not selfish to long for love in return.
It is holy.

A Prayer for Change
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the mothers who gave us life—and the grace that gives us freedom.
Help us sort through what we’ve inherited, with gentleness and courage.
Bless every mother with the grace to love well and be loved deeply.
Pour out Maternal Grace on this world in desperate need of it.
And help us, through You, to pass on something better.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
Mary, Pray for Us
Mary, Mother of God,
You welcomed life and bore Love Himself.
You walked through joy and sorrow,
From the cradle to the Cross.
Wrap every aching, rejoicing, exhausted mother in your mantle of peace.
Pray for us as we learn to love—and be loved—with grace.
Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Spread the effect of grace
of your Flame of Love
over all humanity, especially where Maternal Grace is needed most,
Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
