(12) From the fear of being humiliated, deliver me, Jesus.
Humiliation.
It’s not just a word—it’s a gut-punch.
And in 2025, it can feel like the end of your life as you know it.
We’re not talking about tripping in public or forgetting someone’s name.
We’re talking about being exposed—on screens, in whispers, under judgment.
Being misunderstood.
Called out.
Dragged online.
Having a private failure made public.
Being labeled, canceled, or rejected for something true you said—or something foolish you wish you hadn’t.
And so we manage.
We stay guarded.
We pre-edit ourselves.
We try to keep things clean, safe, polished.
I’ve seen you do it. You’ve seen me do it, too.
We curate. We rehearse. We disappear.
Not because we have nothing to say—but because we’re afraid of the cost of being seen.
And still, Jesus… You ask us to be free from the fear of humiliation.
That’s terrifying.
Because we think: If we lose the fear, what’s to stop us from doing something actually humiliating?
But maybe… that’s not what You’re saying.
Maybe You’re not asking us to walk into traps—
You’re asking us to walk in truth.
To live a life of repentance, of blamelessness, of transformation so real
that even if someone does dig up our past, we can say with peace:
“That’s not who I am anymore.”
Maybe You want us to stop fearing exposure
because You’ve already invited us into the light.
You’re not calling us to be reckless.
You’re calling us to be clean.
To confess what’s real.
To live humbly.
To stop performing—and start abiding.
So that when humiliation comes (and sometimes it does),
it has nothing to stick to.
And if it’s unjust?
Then we stand in You—like You did—silent before accusers,
sure of who we are, even if no one else understands.
And here’s the part where You look at me—at all of us—
and say something that cuts and heals all at once:
“You’re afraid of being humiliated?
Then stop living like someone who has something to hide.”
“Let Me clean your life so you don’t have to curate it.”
“Let Me write your story so you don’t have to spin it.”
“Let Me be your covering so you don’t have to self-protect.”
Jesus, deliver us.
Not so we can walk fearlessly into foolishness,
but so we can walk boldly in truth.
Strip away the fear—
and give us the kind of courage that only humility can hold.
Amen.
